“Picturing Music” with Mark Applebaum
On February 3rd I had the great honor of performing Mark Applebaum’s Entre Funérailles IV for solo flute as part of an artist talk about that he presented at Plains Art Museum in Fargo. He spoke about musical determinacy and indeterminacy, and the program opened an exhibition that includes The Metaphysics of Notation and other of Applebaum’s scores. The exhibition will run until June 9, 2018 – if you are in the area, go and check out his amazing work!
I am thrilled to be involved with the following events at the upcoming National Flute Association Convention:
Visionaries: The Twentieth-Century Flute – Éva Polgár and I will be performing Boulez’s Sonatine for flute and piano on this program of monumental twentieth-century works presented by the New Music Advisory Committee.
Into the Music: Masterclass with the 2018 Commissioned Composers – The New Music Advisory Committee is hosting this masterclass with Eve Beglarian, Valerie Coleman, and Augusta Read Thomas.
Case Study: Story of the Oral Histories of Robert Aitken and Robert Dick – Moderated by Nancy Toff, Paul Taub and I will be presenting about our work as the interviewers for the oral histories of NFA Lifetime Achievement Award winners Robert Aitken and Robert Dick.
Flute and Percussion Showcase: Rachel and Brian Nozny will perform the world premiere of Leaves, a work Brian recently commissioned as a gift for Rachel in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary.
Looking forward to seeing you in Orlando!
