2025 Electronic Music Midwest Festival

Being part of the 2025 Electronic Music Midwest Festival as their guest artist was one of my most meaningful and memorable experiences of the year. It was a true joy to work with this incredible team and such fantastic composers.

Electronic Music Midwest [EMM] is dedicated to programming of a wide variety of electroacoustic music and providing the highest quality performance of electronic media. It is a major annual festival that began in 2002 and has programmed approximately 1,500 new electroacoustic compositions. Composers travel from across the country and around the world to share their music at EMM and to be part of this festival that is designed to build community interaction. The goal of EMM is to bring together vibrant and interesting artists of all forms, give them a vehicle for their expressions, and a place for them to share ideas with others.

I will never forget my first EMM Festival over 15 years ago, as it was immediately clear to me that this it is something truly special. This organization has an impressive clarity of vision, and all that they do for music and for the community is felt and appreciated. Many thanks to the extraordinary EMM staff:

  • Mike McFerron (Founder & Festival co-Director)

  • Ian Corbett (Technical Director & Festival co-Director)

  • Jason Bolte (Technical Director)

  • Robert Voisey (Organization Advancement Director)

  • M. Anthony Reimer (Web Systems Director)

  • Kay He (Creative Director)

I also want to recognize all of the composers and performers involved. I enjoyed every concert and conversation, and I’m particularly thankful that I got to play a stellar line-up of works by Gene Pritsker, Jenny Merkowitz, Indigo Knecht, Sarah Bassingthwaighte, Mengmeng Wang, Hoàng Phó, and Michael Wittgraf…plus a Fifteen Minutes of Fame featuring Simon Hutchinson, RD Wraggett, Daria Baiocchi, Rodney Waschka II, Marco Sebastianelli, Soheil Shirangi, Aurés Moussong, Benjamin Shirey, David Evan Jones, Carlotta Ferrari, David Bohn, James Caldwell, Xu Zheng, Michael Wittgraf, and Benjamin Damann.

While many of the composers are new friends, I got to road trip with my wonderful UND Music colleague, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor Michael Wittgraf, and perform two new works he wrote for me - both Turning, which closed out the Festival, and Wheel About, which was part of the Fifteen Minutes of Fame!

I have collected direct links to all of my performances below. I hope you enjoy!
