Seattle Flute Society Horsfall Competition

One of the Seattle Flute Society’s annual events is the Frank and Lu Horsfall Competition, and I was honored to search as the 2020 Upper Division Adjudicator. This was an amazing weekend—on Saturday I heard an absolutely fantastic group of dedicated and talented high school flutists, and on Sunday I performed the Horsfall Guest Artist Recital. I decided to share a program of warhorses from the standard repertoire (Copland and Prokofiev), plus a piece that was written for me (December for alto flute by Harvey Sollberger) and two of my own works (the whirring dusk for flute and piano and Diandya, the first piece that I composed).

Many thanks to pianist Lisa Bergman for collaborating with me, to Cassie Lear for fantastically organizing the competition, and to the SFS leadership for the invitation and the wonderful stay!
