August 6, 2011 - University of Texas at Dallas. I am so pleased to announce that this fall I am joining the faculty of the University of Texas at Dallas as a lecturer! I will be teaching two sections of MUSI 1306 Understanding Music (World Music). May 22, 2011 - Lawrence University Guest Residency. I recently returned from a two-day residency as guest composer and flutist at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Composer Asha Srinivasan hosted my visit, a joint venture between the composition and flute departments, that included performing a concert (featuring three of my pieces and works by composers Andrew Cole, Robert Dick, Larry Fritts, and Joseph Klein), teaching a flute masterclass, presenting a lecture/demonstration to the flute and composition studios jointly, and speaking and workshopping student compositions in an electroacoustic class. I enjoyed every minute - Lawrence is a wonderful place with engaged students and creative, devoted faculty. I was honored to interact with everyone and contribute to the environment there. I also was extended an offer to join a gamelan rehearsal on my last evening, during which I received a crash course on suling thanks to student Sam Golter - a really interesting and fun ending to a great residency. Thanks to all at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music! April 26, 2011 - Committee work. I am so pleased to announce that I am now serving on the National Flute Association New Music Advisory Committee, and I also will be joining the University of North Texas Composers Forum Board of Directors as Graduate Vice President for the 2011-2012 academic year. I am looking forward to my involvement with both organizations! January 23, 2011 - Upcoming performances of my compositions. I'll be performing Fluxion and when it rains / the river stands still at TexGallery in Denton, Texas, on January 28th. My husband, Scott Sandberg, and pianist Nataliya Sukhina will be performing my Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano on the Collevoxus concert at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas, on March 26th.
